eversyn is a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg - run, founded and supported by Max Planck Society scientists and business professionals. Together we are highly skilled, experienced and motivated team with an excellent track record of successfully working together, manifested by numerous patents and high-profile publications and collaborations. While we are international team with diverse sets of skills and backgrounds, we share the tenacity and grit that will make eversyn a success.
WHO WE ARE
Dr. Thomas Rexer
Managing Director & CTO
Thomas is dedicated to the development of our technology. He has written the prologue of success story as co-inventor of our IP portfolio. As team leader at the Max Planck Institute DCTS, Thomas has a proven track-record of building and leading a high-performance team in the field of biotechnology. Thomas earned a BSc in process engineering from the University of Stuttgart and an MSc from The University of Manchester. He earned his PhD from Newcastle University. In his free time, Thomas is an avid football player competing in the local football league.
Rachel Thu Nguyen, M.Sc.
Majored in entrepreneurship and innovation, Rachel manages the business development of our venture. Her key expertise belongs to sales and account management, marketing and human resources. Her experience varies from hi-tech unicorn to nutrition and medical device industry; and from Vietnam to Germany. Rachel is a Dean’s List Excellent Alumni of Otto-von-Guericke-University of Magdeburg, having graduated from the MSc program in International Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship. Her hobbies include water-coloring and photographing.
Mariana advances and manages our glycoengineering platform. Her key expertise comprise mammalian and insect cell-cultures, molecular biology as well as N-glycan analysis. Mariana technical expertise is completed by her in-depth knowledge of the biopharmaceutical and food industry. She has successfully worked in R&D as a product leader and analyst for PiSA Farmecéutica and TECNNAL Group. Mariana has earned a BSc from Universidad de Guadalajara, and specialized in biotechnology during her MSc at Tecnológico de Monterrey and her PhD at UAM Cuajimalpa. In her free time, Mariana loves to spend time with her family.
Alberto Alcalá, M.Sc.
Alberto is spearheading the development of our production processes for nucleotide sugar and oligosaccharides. His key expertise is the upstream and downstream processing of bacterial production systems. Alberto has experience in the food industry as he previously worked for Unilever as a Material Resource Planner. He holds a BSc degree in Biotechnology engineering from the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico and a MSc from the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg in Germany. When not in the lab, Alberto enjoys playing the guitar, running, swimming and rock climbing.
Sebastian Bruno Kleeberg, B.Sc.
Sebastian is in charge of the production and quality of our nucleotide sugars. He is a specialist for the development of biocatalytic processes and microbial fermentation engineering. He has been essential for the development of our technology platform. Sebastian has earned a BSc from University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz in molecular biotechnology and is about to get an MSc from Bielefeld University. In his spare time, he serves for the German Army Reserve and loves to do functional fitness and hiking.
Dr. Karim Jaén
Karim strengthens the glycoengineering platform through the implementation of robust and scalable production processes of glycosyltransferases. Among his major assets counts the wide experience in upstream bioprocess development for manufacturing plasmids, recombinant proteins and viruses intended for clinical applications, by using cellular hosts from the simplest prokaryotic E. coli, to the eukaryotic mammalian, avian and insect cells. Additionally he counts with experience in the validation of aseptic and sterilization processes for PiSA Farmacéutica in Mexico. During his studies in Mexico, Karim earned a BSc in chemical engineering from ITESO, and specialized in biotechnology during his MSc at UNAM and his PhD at UAM Cuajimalpa. In his free time, Karim enjoys playing board games and building puzzles with his family.
Dr. Nam-Hai Hoang
Nam-Hai brings substantial experience in enzyme development, biocatalysis and reaction engineering for our production of human milk oligosaccharides. He is an enzymologist with solid experience using different classes of enzymes for organic synthesis and food processing. Nam-Hai studied his combined Master and PhD program in Bioengineering at Tokyo Institute of
Technology with a Japanese government scholarship (MEXT), and won the Kamada-Izumi award from the university upon his doctoral dissertation completion. Before joining eversyn, he had two years working as a postdoc at Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB with the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. In 2022, he was honourably selected as young scientist to participate in Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Chemistry).
Prof. Dr. -Ing. Udo Reichl
Prof. Reichl studied biology at Saarland University, and Chemical Engineering at Stuttgart University, where he gained his PhD at the Institute for Systems Dynamic and Control. After holding several postdoc positions, he became head of virus productions at Pitman-Moore GmbH in Burgwedel near Hanover, Germany. Since 1999, he has held the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, and he was appointed Director at the MPI for the Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in 2000.
